Employees should not have to choose between voicing their concerns over employer misconduct and keeping their jobs. An employer’s power to hire and fire employees at will should not be used to undermine the law or to compromise the safety and health of employees and the public. The employers’ interest in maintaining authority must be balanced with the notions of freedom of expression and the public good.
